A Novel Distributed Averaging Approach for Estimating Economic Dispatch in Directed Balanced Power Networks

Abstract

This study introduced a novel estimation scheme termed distributed averaging to address the economic dispatch problem (EDP) in SGs, which seeks to minimize overall generating costs while complying to energy supply-demand equilibrium and plant capacity limitations. To address the limitation of existing methods for using central knowledge or measurement, an estimation approach via average consensus is viable. We introduce a distributed estimation technique to address the EDP under a directed balanced transmission topology. In these methods, certain estimated variables serve as global functions. The new approach estimates these variables across directed and balanced communication networks. Simulations are conducted to verify and demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method over a network of five generators in a ring topology.
