Abstract

Mobile computing environments provide users with access to information and computing regardless of their geographical location. Mobile computing systems are susceptible to faults. Mobile support station failure is one such faults. This paper considers the problem of designing a fault tolerant mobile computing system able to tolerate failures of mobile support stations. A schemels proposed which combines the pessimistic and the optimistic replication schemes to tolerate mobile support station failures. We compare the performance of the proposed scheme with optimistic and pessimistic schemes via simulation. Results show that the proposed scheme performs better than either schemes.
