Abstract
Wet gas flow is a common occurrence across various industrial processes, particularly in energy industries. Accurate and reliable measurement of such flows is essential for efficient monitoring and process management. Differential pressure meters are widely utilized in wet gas flow measurement applications for their low cost and simple construction, with Venturi meters being the most preferred for their flexibility and robustness. However, the presence of a small amount of liquid in the flow causes these meters to over-read the actual gas flow rate value. Therefore, several wet gas flow correlations have been developed to correct for this over-reading error. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the correlations developed for Venturi meters, covering correlations specific to both horizontal and vertical installations. The strengths and limitations of each correlation are discussed in detail. Flow, geometric, and installation factors influencing the over-reading behavior of Venturi meters are also extensively reviewed. Key findings for each factor have been consolidated and discussed, while highlighting the current status of research on their significance. Additionally, the comparative studies on the predictive performance of these correlations under different conditions are reviewed, and their results are summarized. The ISO/TR and the de Leeuw have been identified to provide the most consistent performance for horizontal Venturis, whereas for Vertical set-ups, the relatively recent Chinello correlation emerge as the most promising candidate for further validation.
