Abstract

Due to the diminution of fossil fuels and the rise of pollution, it is vital for humans to explore various sources of renewable energy. Biomass energy, which includes wood, pellets, briquettes, biodiesel, bio-oil, alcohols, produces gas, and biogas, has tremendous potential. It supports a country’s fuel economy and reduces pollution levels. Aquatic weeds, for example, Azolla microphylla, Salvinia molesta, and water hyacinth may be used to make biodiesel and contribute to building a biofuel economy. This waste product must be used to generate wealth and support Atmanirbhar Bharat by building our own fuel. Transesterification of lipids taken out from the biomass of these water weeds generates biodiesel and glycerol. It consists of ethyl or methyl esters of fatty acids. Blending the obtained biodiesel with diesel has similar properties as diesel. Blending of 20% biodiesel with diesel has shown an acceptable performance and emission parameters range.
