Abstract

A compact frequency reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna is presented. The miniaturization in the antenna size is achieved by annular slot loading while the frequency reconfigurability is realized by using a varactor diode across the slot in the ground plane. The frequency agile design can be utilized to cover several well known frequency bands and provides smooth frequency reconfigurability between 2 GHz to 2.3 GHz. The proposed antenna is designed on a single substrate board of dimensions 50×50×0.8 mm3.
