A case study for improving performance and life expectancy of air-conditioning systems at a university campus

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

A study was carried out with the aim of improving the performance and life expectancy of air conditioning systems at a Saudi Arabian university. An investigation of the service records of 3000 air conditioning systems ranging from 5 to 700 kW was conducted. All were of the air cooled type. Statistical and physical aspects of system failure were analysed. It was found that a substantial number of failures were caused by improper maintenance of equipment and the adverse local environment which is corrosive, dust-laden, and experiences high ambient temperatures.
