Abstract
A biofilm model has been developed in order to comprehend the biological processes in a packed bed reactor. The effects of diffusional resistance inside the biofilm and the backmixing of the bulk liquid have been incorporated to obtain general analytical solutions for zero-order and first-order kinetics. The results are evaluated in terms of parameters of physical significance.
