Abstract

It has long been a hot issue for the enhancement of resistive tolerance of existing protection schemes against high-resistance single-phase earth fault. In this paper, to address the problem brought by summation impedance relay that the current criterion is not adaptive to capacitance current, an improved impedance relay for high-resistance earth fault detection was proposed, and the corresponding adaptive threshold was designed for its internal fault fast-trip capability. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method is easily-applied without reliance to the information synchronization, and can be capable to high-resistance single-phase earth fault as high as 300Ω in most cases, even when the system is under open-phase operation conditions. Working in parallel with existing protections, the single-phase earth fault problem can be solved completely.
