Wearable Digital Forensics: A framework to identify digital evidence and detect risk factors that lead to aggressive behavior

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Wearables have gained prominence in forensics as a source of digital evidence, since they can store a wealth of valuable data, including health information, social media activ...vity and financial information. They are programmed to operate in the background of the user’s daily activities and generate data via built-in sensors (e.g., measuring distance walked, heartbeat, body temperature), see Figure 1. As a result, they may reveal a wealth of forensic data that can be used to dispute a suspect’s false testimony or to track the victim’s behaviour at the time of the incident. Until now, very few studies have been conducted into the possibility of using wearable electronics as a source of digital evidence. Current research on wearable digital forensics involves manual and labour-intensive investigation by examiners. Furthermore, digital investigators must acquire skills in forensically extracting and analysing wearables from a variety of vendors. Additionally, they must examine the wearables to determine the risk factors that influence the wearer's decision to engage in aggressive behaviour.
