Description
This project is long term project (3-years), and its ultimate goal is to design and fabricate a reconfigurable reflective surface (RRS), which will be used in a future project...t related to the reflective intelligent surface (RIS). This research proposal is focus on manipulating the polarization and gain of the incident electromagnetic (EM) waves through the design and implementation of polarization rotators and reflectarrays. The research project is divided into two phases; first phase is one year and will focus on the design and implementation of polarization rotators to manipulate the polarization of the EM waves. While the second phase will be two years and will concern about the design and fabrication of reflectarrays, which are able to change the polarization, gain, and direction of the incoming EM waves. For the current phase “this proposal” (1st phase) and as mentioned above, we will focus on the design, fabrication, and measurement of polarization rotator structures to manipulate the polarization of the incoming EM wave. This stage will help us to have deep understanding on how to design these structures to be able to use them in the future research of designing the RIS, which may require to manipulate the polarization of the EM waves. One graduate student will conduct the research and development at this stage with the help of PI and CO-PI. We are intended to utilize SURE and Uxplore undergraduate research program during this research project to let the undergraduate students gain the research experience before graduation. For the first year, design, fabrication, and measurement of one novel polarization rotator design is targeted with the potential of one good publication.
