Beamforming Design for Wireless Information and Power Transfer Systems

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The recent proposal of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) for wireless communication devices is a promising technique toward realising the Internet of Things earlier than we had ever hoped to. The concept of SWIPT enables charging of wireless devices using radio waves traditionally used solely for data transfer. The implementation of SWIPT, however, requires conventional transceiver structures, interference and network-security management be re-engineered and re-optimised, and these are extremely complex problems. This project will solve these problems by combining techniques from multiple disciplines including optimisation, network control, and coding. The outcomes of the project will include new transceiver designs, new algorithms for energy beamforming and power management, and new network coding schemes, to enable SWIPT to operate in large-scale and secured networks. The success of this project will contribute to realising the Internet of Things by allowing billions of devices to charge their batteries and communicate simultaneously and wirelessly.
