Description

Introduction: Being physically active is a lifestyle choice for most individuals and it is important for researchers to learn more about these choices under the broad umbrella of motivation. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) relates to the self-perceived health of a person and consists of ratings of well-being and functionality in important life areas, including physical well-being/functioning, bodily symptoms, emotional well-being, self-esteem, social functioning, and family relations (Solans et al., 2008; Bullinger, 2009). HRQOL is a critical indicator of ones perception of health and satisfaction with his or her life. Obesity is a leading risk factor for premature mortality and numerous chronic health conditions that reduce the overall quality of life. Forbes magazine 2007 reported Saudi Arabia with the most overweight people, and was ranked 29th in the world with 68.3% of the population declared as having an unhealthy weight. Globally heath is the biggest concern for the students due to their busy study schedule, dietary habits, and physical inactivity. Statement of the Problem: The purpose of study will be to assess and compare exercise motivation, physical self-concept, and health related quality of life of university students with different body mass index (BMI). Another purpose will be to find out the relationship between BMI and exercise motivation, physical self and health related quality of life. Objectives: The investigation will focus on the following objectives: 1. To assess the exercise motivation, perceived physical self, and health related quality of life of among students with different Body Mass Index (BMI) 2. To compare the exercise motivation, physical self, and health related quality of life among students of different Body Mass Index (BMI). 3. To find out the relationship between BMI status and exercise motivation 4. To find out the relationship between BMI status and perceived physical self 5. To find out the relationship between BMI status and health related quality of life 6. To find out the relationship between exercise motivation and health related quality of life Methods and Procedure: For the purpose of this study 120 undergraduate students (30 in each category) will voluntarily be recruited from the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. The age of the students will range from 17-25 years. On the basis of BMI four categories will be formed as underweight
