Besides, he is an Associate Professor (on study leave) in the Department of Civil Engineering at the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prior to joining KFUPM, he served as a full-time researcher at Kunsan National University's Renewable Energy Research Institute in South Korea. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from IUBAT in 2014 and began his academic career there the same year. Prior to joining IUBAT as a Lecturer in 2014, Mr. Rahman worked as a Research Assistant (RA) in the Civil Engineering Department at IUBAT. He obtained his Master of Science in Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering (specializing in Hydrology, with 85% marks) from Hohai University in 2018 and a Ph.D. in Physical Geography (Hydrology, with a CGPA of 4.00 out of 4.00, ranking first among international students) from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, which is globally ranked first based on the Nature Index. During his Ph.D. studies, Dr. Rahman received the Outstanding Research Student Award in 2020 from his lab for publishing high-impact factor journals.

Dr. Rahman has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers in prestigious international journals (SCI, EI, and Scopus indexed) and conference proceedings (Scopus indexed). The significance of his work is reflected in his recent publications in leading peer-reviewed international journals, including the Journal of Cleaner Production, Journal of Environmental Management, Geoscience Frontiers, and Journal of Hydrology. His work is highly regarded in the academic community. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for numerous international journals, including the Journal of Hydrology, Journal of Environmental Management, Journal of Mountain Science, Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, Natural Hazards, Geo-spatial Information Science, Scientific African, Acta Geodynamica et Geomaterialia, and Water Resource Management.

Dr. Rahman is also actively involved in editorial work. He is an Editorial Board Member of Discover Geoscience, an Associate Editor for Earth Systems and Environment, and a Guest Editor for PLOS ONE.

His research interests include advanced GIS and remote sensing techniques, hydraulic modeling, machine learning and deep learning algorithms in natural hazards, i.e., flood, debris flow, landslides, GLOF, etc., glacier melting and climate change, landcover change detection, etc. Dr. Rahman is an affiliated member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Concrete Institute. He is also a full member of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
