Professional Information

David has been researching the design and development process since 2002; over the years he has developed a range of interests in this area. After completing a Ph.D. on the topic, he worked as a researcher at Cambridge University and spent a few years as an Engineering Professional in Product Development Engineering at Bombardier Aerospace in Canada. He returned to academia as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland in New Zealand where he taught design and product development in Mechanical Engineering. David is now an Associate Professor in the Integrated Design Department and Research Scholar at the IRC for Smart Mobility and Logistics at KFUPM. He is also a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand and a member of the editorial boards of Research in Engineering Design and Journal of Engineering Design.

Teaching

David has developed and taught a range of courses in design, engineering and product development over the years, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in classes from 3 to 250. Courses/topics have included:

  • Engineering fundamentals (statics, dynamics, thermofluids)
